Marine Academic Research is a small, UK registered, non-profit making organisation dedicated to marine research and education. We aim to conduct and support any type of marine research that increases our understanding of, and human interaction with, the marine environment. Funded entirely by grant applications and donations, we are constantly looking for more ways to fund this work.

To date, our research has been primarily concerned with the behavioural effects of inert gas narcosis (sometimes referred to as nitrogen narcosis) but the intention is to broaden this focus into other areas in the future. If you would like to know more please check out our list of publications.

Our data collection has been in collaboration with staff at UK Universities and using volunteer divers recruited from dive centres & clubs. These divers have given up their time to be tested and their support is invaluable. So a big thank you for anyone reading this who took part in one of our studies. We are periodically conducting studies and if you would like to know how to volunteer to take part please check our current projects.
